A Heartwarming Visit to Umbrella Children’s Home: Empowering Futures through Technology and Creativity

On November 23, 2024, Iris for Good had the privilege of visiting the Umbrella Children’s Home in Nairobi as part of our Empowering Futures: Digital Literacy and Creative Arts Program. This initiative aimed to bridge the digital divide while fostering creativity among marginalized children.

The day was filled with impactful activities tailored to help the children unlock their potential. Through engaging digital literacy workshops, participants learned foundational skills such as computer navigation, coding basics, and online safety. For many of these children, this was their first opportunity to interact with technology, and their enthusiasm was palpable.

Beyond technology, we emphasized the importance of creative self-expression. Activities like face painting, collaborative art projects, and mobile photography allowed the children to explore their creativity while building teamwork and confidence. The highlight of the day was the Showcase and Appreciation event, where the children proudly displayed their creations in a mini-gallery. Their faces lit up with pride as they shared their achievements with the community.

We also provided motivational talks, food donations, learning materials, and digital tools to ensure the children could continue learning and creating beyond the program.

This visit reaffirmed our commitment to using technology and creativity as tools for empowerment. Witnessing the resilience and eagerness of these children inspires us to continue our mission of promoting digital inclusion and equity.

At Iris for Good, we believe that every child deserves a fighting chance, and this program is just one step toward building a more inclusive future. Together, we can bridge the digital gap and unlock the boundless potential within our communities.
